Summer Internship

This May we had another successful day at the STEM careers fair hosted by the University of Canterbury.

We had a great time meeting the current engineering students and took the oppotunity to invite many to our Open Studio event a few weeks later, where we shared the Pocket story, gave some insight to the roles at Pocket and enjoyed some pizza and beers. As a team we always look forward to this night, as we love sharing the good thing we have at Pocket with so many enthusiastic learners and being around the vibe and energy of the students is always fun.

Summer Internship

Greeting students at the Pocket Open Studio event, May 2025

The aim of the evening is to give students a flavour of who we are and what we do at Pocket. If they feel akin to our core values and vision, we encourage them to apply for our summer internship which runs from November through to February for 10 weeks. A requirement for the Civil Engineering degree is to gain hours putting learning into practice at a consultancy and we are happy to be part of this process.

We had a plethora of applications for the internship this summer, and after some careful deliberation we invited 6 candidates for interview. I was grateful for the openness and honesty from everyone during the interviews and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each person. It was not an easy decision to pick only one student for this summer, but we have appointed our intern, and we so look forward to them starting with us this summer in our Christchurch Studio.
